Ellucian, the leading global provider for higher education software and services, today announced winners of its Student Success Challenge, which was designed to highlight innovative approaches that colleges and universities are taking to address the factors that determine whether students will achieve their educational goals.

The Student Success Challenge was introduced during a general session at Ellucian Live 2014, the company’s annual user conference that attracts more than 8,000 attendees by Ellucian’s Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Michael Betz.

“It was evident in the quality of submissions received that student success is top-of-mind for so many of the colleges and universities that we serve” said Betz. “We’re proud to highlight a handful of the innovative approaches and are honored that institutions see a direct correlation between Ellucian’s solutions and delivering on their mission of student success.”

First Place: SAIT Polytechnic

“We are honored to receive first place in Ellucian’s Student Success Challenge. The $15,000 scholarship contribution directly supports our goal to increase the success rate of students, providing them an opportunity to leave our institution with a credential,” said Mark Wall, Academic Chair of Student Retention at SAIT Polytechnic. “We recognize the power of Banner® and the role it plays, as we improve how we manage and serve our students on academic probation."

Second Place: North Iowa Area Community College

“North Iowa Area Community College is pleased to be acknowledged in Ellucian’s Student Success Challenge,” said Terri Ewers, Vice President for Student Services at North Iowa Area Community College. “We’ve seen a positive impact from our instructors and staff using Colleague Retention Alert to identify students at risk, so that intervention methods can be implemented. We will be seeking opportunities to share our initiatives and outcomes with peer institutions.”

Third Place: Prairie View A&M University

“I am thrilled that Prairie View A&M University was named as an award recipient of the Ellucian Student Success Challenge.  It's an honor to receive this award when I know that we competed among many worthy colleges and universities for this recognition," explained Dr. Felecia McInnis Nave, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. "We have a student population that is second to none and we, as a university, want them to walk away with the education and skills that they need to compete in an increasingly global marketplace.  This award will help us reach students who may need additional funding to help them further pursue their scholastic dreams."

Ten institutions received honorable mentions and $2,500 in credits towards Ellucian Professional Services engagements.
