Documentary Sheds Light on Role of Higher Education in a Changed Economy

Courageous Learning, a captivating 30-minute documentary, features insights from the nation’s foremost continuing education and workforce development experts and profiles a nation challenged to rethink its approach to higher education in the face of vast economic change.

“If we are going to continue to attract the kinds of business and industry we need to improve our economy, we’ve got to have a talented, educated workforce,” urges Walter Bumphus, president and CEO of the American Association of Community Colleges.

“We lost about 15 million jobs in the recession and those are still not coming back,” explains Anthony Carnevale, executive director of the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, who adds, “that leaves experienced workers with no place to go.”

Except, perhaps, back to college for more training.

How can we make higher education accessible and affordable to the people who most need it? And what does effective workforce training look like in a changed economy?
