We're in a point in time in which the pace of change is moving like none other we've seen before. Stakeholders recognise that staying where we are and the way we are approaching delivering education needs to change.
When you start thinking about an enterprise and thinking about the organisation from a system perspective, change management has a big and new meaning. No longer are we making changes that affect just a pocket of an organisation. Those changes could impact the entire university or the entire organisation.
So change management is something where we need to understand, how do we create this stability? How do we create the opportunity that exists with the advent of tools or changes or configurations? And that needs to be a team game.
I think the role of the CIO is evolving to be a communicator of opportunity as a key partner in describing the opportunities that exist. And it's to be somebody who can identify the vision and set a course of action and then hold people not only accountable, but encourage them and empower them to take the actions that they need in order for the organisation to move forward.
