Ian Anderson

Ian Anderson is currently Enterprise Architect at Ellucian, the market-leader in software solutions and services built to power higher education.

Ian has spent almost 30 years working within the UK Higher Education (HE) Sector and the majority of this time was at Coventry University where Ian first started in the Finance Department. As the Senior Income Manager, Ian became heavily involved in the implementation of ecommerce solutions within the sector. Coventry University was in the first initial group of UK universities to offer students on-line payments and the very first to incorporate PayPal into its payment offerings.

Ian’s additional achievements include creating the first UK HE ecommerce User Group, at WPM Education Ltd, which he Chaired during its first five years. In the mid 2000s, Ian made the switch to IT and became Lead Business Systems Analyst heading up a team of BAs. It was during this time that Ian was introduced to Enterprise Architecture (EA) and with a group of fellow devotees from a number of UK Universities they formed the EA Community of Practice under UCISA - a professional body for digital practitioners within education with a membership base stretching over 100 universities.

In 2015, Ian became Chair of the EA Community of Practice and having identified that EA as a practice was still struggling to develop in the sector, Ian proposed the creation of a UK HE Capability model to both facilitate a starting point for all EA practices and help create a focal linkage point between the ‘business’ and IT. With the assistance of 5 colleagues from across the sector, the model was created and released in March 2018 and is already in use in many UK universities today.
