Michael Mathews, associate vice president for innovation and technology, Oral Roberts University
The latest version of Ellucian Banner that we are most impressed with, when you think of an IT department, is really in the administrative pages. IT employees now feel they're much more savvy when it comes to helping the end users with the way the Banner system is focused right now, and it gives a fresh start from our Oracle Forms and reports to revisit “Do we really use these reports?”
For instance, one area we have 2,000 reports, and that VP thought she only had two reports, and there's 2,000 reports. And so, it was really time to say, “Do we need these 2,000 reports? Here's what you can do in the system.” So, the flexibility of Banner is tremendous.
The greatest benefit with the new registration is actually called the Course Plan, where a student can actually look inside Ellucian Banner's registration system and plan out four years in advance. That's an incredible benefit when you think about retention and persistence. People will persist and be retained when they think they have a four-year plan, so the guided plan that Banner has right from the get-go in the registration pages is huge for us.
Oral Roberts University's partnership with Ellucian just keeps getting better. You know, we have been on the Banner system for over 25 years. Our partnership with Ellucian is so critical that the president and all the executives now understand, that's the system of record. We don't have issues with security. It's solid, it's maintained, all the FERPA regulations. And so, the president's been there for five years now and he didn't understand that at first, but now he celebrates the fact that we've got a rock-solid system with a rock-solid company that we've got a long-term relationship with.
