Fiji National University selects Ellucian to enhance student experience
- Ellucian Banner will help Fiji National University deliver an enhanced experience for its students and staff
- The ERP will provide student information management, finance, and human resources components
Fiji National University (FNU), located in the Republic of Fiji in the South Pacific, recently chose Ellucian's Banner® as the university’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution. Providing student information management, finance, and human resources components, Banner will help FNU deliver an enhanced experience for its students and staff.
FNU was established in its current form through the merger of six government tertiary institutions in Fiji in 2010, although its constituent colleges have a long and distinguished history dating back to the 19th century. The constituent institutions that are based on 10 major campuses serve approximately 20,000 students with 2,000 academic and support staff across Fiji. FNU offers a full range of sub-degrees and higher education programs from certificates and diplomas through to bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. It houses the National Training and Productivity Centre which offers in-service training courses for over 10,000 employees each year.
Since its inception, FNU has invested heavily in upgrading its campuses, building a state-of-the-art digital infrastructure to support learning and research, and developing a range of new teaching programs including engineering, veterinary science, and early childhood education. The university currently comprises five colleges: the College of Humanities & Education (CHE), the College of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences (CMNHS); the College of Engineering, Science & Technology (CEST); the College of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry (CAFF); the College of Business, Hospitality & Tourism Studies (CBHTS); plus the National Training and Productivity Centre (NTPC).
As Fiji’s national university, FNU is committed to providing the training and education to create a highly-skilled workforce and underpin the country’s rapid economic and social development. Education spending now comprises 24% of the government’s total budget expenditure and is seen as the primary driving force for transforming Fiji’s economy and the lives of its citizens.
“The Ellucian team took the time to truly understand our business challenges and demonstrated how their proven solutions can address them—we know we have forged a true partnership through this investment,” said FNU Vice Chancellor Professor Nigel Healey. “Banner will unify systems across our campus and make it easier for staff and students to access information, ultimately leading to improved outcomes and better experiences across the board.”
Banner will create a central repository for student information, enable easier access to information from mobile and other devices, as well as provide tools to improve student success rates. By freeing up time and resources in the planning process, students and staff will be able to better focus on their mission of boosting the country’s economy through education.
“Banner was built to share information more easily and efficiently across the institution,” said Andrew Belger, Managing Director for Asia Pacific at Ellucian. “With Banner as its ERP foundation, FNU can shift to a data-informed approach to decision making to more meaningfully impact the lives of its students and Fiji as a whole.”
