Statement from Ellucian President and CEO Laura Ipsen Regarding Designation of Juneteenth as a Federal Holiday
On behalf of everyone at Ellucian, I applaud President Biden and the United States Congress for coming together to designate Juneteenth as a federal holiday. This is a day to celebrate the rights, strength, and resilience of the Black community; acknowledge the history of struggle and the freedom that was stolen; and advocate for an end to racial injustice and inequity globally.
While this legislation is huge step forward, progress requires more than a day of observance. It requires ongoing, open, and honest dialogue with concerted actions from people around the world. Only then will we achieve a tangible commitment to fostering diverse and inclusive communities and promoting racial justice.
Ellucian is a company dedicated to transforming higher education and creating opportunities for future generations. It is imperative that all of us reflect on the importance of Juneteenth and engage in discourse about what we can do—as individuals and as a community—to drive positive change. If each of us commits to one action and initiates one conversation, we will be part of the progress.
