Trevecca Nazarene University (Trevecca) has successfully completed its software-as-a-service (SaaS) deployment of Ellucian Colleague. The new Ellucian Colleague SaaS solution provides Trevecca with the technology needed to serve today’s mobile students, and enables faculty to better connect with students, ensuring progress and completion.
“This move changes the very way we do business and puts us in a strong position for future success—we are excited to provide the absolute best experience for our students, faculty and staff,” said Trevecca Nazarene University CIO John Eberle.
Established in 1901, Trevecca is a private, accredited, comprehensive institution of higher learning located in Nashville, Tennessee. Recognizing a change in the student landscape, the university has broadened its course offerings to provide a variety of in-person, distance, nontraditional and continuing education options. Trevecca currently offers 17 fully online professional programs that span the associate, undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels.
Before moving to SaaS, Trevecca saw that its resources weren’t keeping pace with its growing number of remote students and employees. University leadership adopted a cloud-first policy to provide the best technology experience to students, including its growing non-traditional student population.
In addition to meeting the high availability needs of online education, SaaS-based applications offer Trevecca disaster recovery and business continuity options without the spend on backend infrastructure and support. Moving its Colleague ERP to SaaS also allows Trevecca to easily access the most current application releases without taxing the IT team with the work of upgrades—allowing the institution to focus on serving students.
In preparation for migration to the cloud, Trevecca used the summer to evaluate and remove its customizations. Throughout the implementation process, the team continually tested and validated the readiness of Trevecca’s migration environment. Because of this work, the migration of their full Colleague ERP took just 73 days to complete and went live two full days ahead of schedule.
“Ellucian is a great partner in our push to the cloud—the team is an exceptional resource and kept us on track to ensure a successful migration,” said Eberle. “Now that Colleague SaaS is live, we just have one last system to migrate and all of our critical systems will be SaaS in the cloud.”
Five days after going live on Ellucian Colleague SaaS, Trevecca opened student registration. Using their powerful, fully integrated student management system, the institution achieved a smooth registration in the cloud and overall faster performance during a high-use period.
