MEXICALI, Mexico and RESTON, VA — As part of its 2036 Development Plan, CETYS Universidad is taking a strategic step forward in its digital transformation journey with Ellucian, the leading higher education technology solutions provider serving approximately 3,000 institutions across 50 countries, supporting more than 21 million students worldwide.
Through this collaboration, CETYS will become the first university in Mexico to implement Ellucian Student powered by Colleague, a Software as a Service (SaaS)-native and AI-powered student information system purpose-built for higher education to support the end-to-end student lifecycle. This transformation marks a milestone in the country's higher education sector and reaffirms the institution’s commitment to innovation, operational excellence and strengthening of the student experience.
This initiative introduces a next-generation student-centered digital ecosystem designed to seamlessly integrate administrative, academic and student life processes.
With this implementation, CETYS will be able to comprehensively manage the entire student lifecycle — from admission to graduation — enabling the university to reduce operational complexity, access real-time information for more informed decision-making, and deliver a more personalized and connected experience for students and staff. All of this will be supported by a SaaS architecture that provides greater efficiency, scalability and future readiness.
"CETYS has always been characterized by its commitment to continuous improvement. That is what brings us here today, with the conviction to move forward now backed by Ellucian as a strategic partner. We are witnessing the launch of this initiative into Latin America, confident that this is only the beginning and that the project will expand throughout the region," said Fernando León García, President, CETYS Universidad.
With the support of Ellucian, CETYS will continue advancing towards a more agile and proactive model for academic services.
Alberto Gárate Rivera, Vice President of Academic Affairs, CETYS Universidad, highlighted that this partnership with Ellucian marks the formal beginning of an intensive effort that represents the first of 11 projects comprising the institution's digital transformation strategy.
This project is the result of a broader institutional effort developed with the support of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank, through its Digital for Tertiary Education Program (D4TEP), aimed at consolidating a world-class digital ecosystem that enhances the CETYS experience.
"CETYS Universidad is setting a new benchmark for innovation in higher education across Mexico," said Laura Ipsen, President and CEO, Ellucian. "As the first institution in Mexico to implement Ellucian Student powered by Colleague, CETYS is demonstrating bold leadership and a strong commitment to a future-ready, student-first digital campus. With its international focus and reputation for academic excellence, CETYS is well positioned to leverage AI-powered technology to streamline operations, enhance decision-making, and deliver a more connected experience for students and staff."
The adoption of this platform represents a significant evolution in response to the demands of an increasingly dynamic, global and technology-driven educational environment. It will enable CETYS to optimize key processes, reduce operational burdens and redirect institutional capabilities towards higher-value initiatives such as educational innovation, student support and data-informed decision-making.
This strategic decision positions CETYS alongside world-class technological standards and strengthens its role as a benchmark for university innovation in Mexico.
