Recycling and Donating Legacy IT Equipment with Human-I-T
Recycling and donating IT equipment is an important step to reduce Ellucian’s impact on the environment. In the U.S., we partner with Human-I-T to ensure waste does not end up in landfills.
Human-I-T is a nonprofit and social enterprise creating equitable access to technology by providing devices, internet access, digital skills training, and tech support for local communities. They partner with companies like Ellucian to divert waste from landfills and protect our planet.
In our Latin America and Caribbean offices, IT equipment is recycled by Centro de Acopio de Desechos Electronicos SAS de CV (CADESE). We can proudly report that in 2022, Ellucian donated more than 1,000 laptops through these efforts. In addition, we provided used laptops to schools and organizations in the following locations:
- Our Milton Keynes, UK office contributed 40+ laptops to local schools
- Our Sydney, Australia office contributed 15+ laptops to a local organization
- Our U.S. offices donated 60+ laptops to local schools and organizations
In addition to managing our IT waste through recycling and reuse, reducing our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions has been prioritized from the start 2023.
Ellucian established our first-ever GHG emissions reduction target in 2022. We have also committed to offsetting 100% of our 2022 emissions through the purchase of carbon credits supporting climate action projects. A cross-company team of leaders will work in 2023 to maintain our progress on emissions reduction and create a roadmap for future reductions.
