Ellucian honored with 2018 James M. Scott Exceptional Design Award
Ellucian’s Reston headquarters, designed by Gensler, received the top honor in the 2018 James M. Scott Exceptional Design Awards, sponsored by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. This distinction recognizes the space as a superior work of architecture and design. Established in 1985, the awards recognize achievement in building design and site development.
The Reston headquarters is paving the way for a newer, more open and collaborative environment for Ellucian. The 100 percent open (no offices) space encourages employees to work wherever they choose to be the most creative and productive. While Gensler, the architect for the project, designed the space to evoke a modern college campus, Ellucian employees were involved in the planning processes and are continually asked for feedback to ensure the space allows creativity, innovation and collaboration to flourish.
Jury comments on Ellucian’s Reston headquarters include:
"Located in Reston, this LEED Gold building has a beautifully conceived three-dimensional space that invites interaction. Also referred to as the Magnetic Campus, the headquarters for the Ellucian software company has created a natural calming professional interior feel by using large glass exterior walls that allows for natural light and the site’s woodland scenery to flood the work place freely. The restrained use of color gives the spaces great appeal and identity without overwhelming the spaces occupants. Highly detailed, use of wood and steel ceilings and railing elements are placed artfully to stimulate creativity and organization for both visitors and employees. A design worthy of top recognition in the design industry…fabulous!"
The design awards program is sponsored by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and administered by the County's Department of Planning and Zoning in cooperation with the County Architectural Review Board and the Northern Virginia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
