UWI Five Islands launches Ellucian Platform, transforming student services and campus operations across Antigua & Barbuda.
At The University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus, located in Antigua & Barbuda, transformation isn’t just a goal — it's a promise to students, staff, and the future of education in the region. That promise recently came to life with the successful launch of the Ellucian Platform, marking a major milestone in the campus's digital evolution.
The journey began with a clear vision: to modernize operations and create a seamless experience for students, from their first application to graduation day. By early 2025, the campus team, in close partnership with Ellucian, was fully mobilized. The mission was ambitious, but the energy was palpable.
A Campus Transformed
The implementation unfolded in two powerful phases. First came the migration of essential student and general person data, along with the rollout of tools designed to enhance user experience and provide deeper insights into campus operations.
The results were immediate and impressive: over 1300 students registered and billed on time. The campus avoided another year of external hosting fees, unlocking significant cost savings and operational efficiency. But beyond the numbers, the launch signaled something bigger—a shift toward a smarter, more student-centered future.
Campus leaders reflected on the impact with pride and optimism. Principal Robinson described the transition as “the single largest investment of my career,” emphasizing that it’s already paying dividends in efficiency, agility, and return on investment. “This platform is not just a system upgrade—it is a transformative leap that empowers our staff and students with seamless, real-time solutions,” he said, underscoring the long-term sustainability it brings to the campus.
Dr. Camille Samuel, Campus Registrar, echoed that sentiment, highlighting how the platform has changed the way she supports students. “With the Ellucian Platform, I gain one-click visibility into the heartbeat of student progress and retention,” she explained. “I can quickly identify students who have not returned, share details with our recruitment and retention team, and intervene early. This is more than data—it is actionable intelligence that builds an ecosystem of support where our students can truly thrive.”
Students First, Always
During the launch, students shared how smooth and productive their registration experience was—highlighting the campus’s commitment to delivering responsive, high-quality service. For many, it was a glimpse into a future where technology works quietly in the background, allowing them to focus on what truly matters: learning, growing, and succeeding.
“My experience with the new registration system has been smooth and efficient, it is more user friendly and modern. I was able to complete my registration at time” - Jevonté Spencer, Student, Human Resources Management.
This go-live isn’t just a technical achievement—it’s a declaration. UWI Five Islands is putting students first, embracing innovation, and building a future-ready institution where every interaction is designed to support success.
